La Fiermontina Ocean, in the province of Larache, can be reached after passing through the village of Khemis Sahel and driving five kilometres along a track through a forest of cork oaks. This region won the heart of Fouad Giacomo-Filali, who has been visiting it for 30 years when looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
During his visits to Larache, he came to know about the villages of Dchier, Mezgalef and Tcharouah, and realised the plight of its inhabitants. This realisation led him and his sister, Antonia Yasmina, to start a community development project, revitalising villages that had almost disappeared by providing water, roads, education and training, fostering the birth of local cooperatives, sustainable agricultural initiatives, and tourism based on a social and solidarity economy.
